Greatest Moments in Olympic Gymnastics History 1984


Li Ning is one of the most outstanding athletes in the 20th century.

He was part of the first Chinese team to participate in the  Los Angeles Olympics 1984, and he had a very successful competition, earning six medals in all: three gold (floor, pommel horse, and rings), two silver (team and vault), and one bronze (all-around). The team came in as world champions, but were upstaged by the Americans, who won a gold medal .
As a gymnast, Li Ning was well known (a Daredevil with Style ) for the

 
amplitude and high difficulty he showed in all of his routines.

Li founded Li Ning Company Limited in 1990, and still serves as its executive chairman and head of business development, corporate strategies and planning. The company is one of the most prominent sports apparel companies in China, and is on par with the success of Adidas and Nike brands in the United States

He  married to former gymnast Chen Yongyan who was team captain of the bronze medalist Chinese women's team at the 1984 Olympics. The couple trained together as children at their provincial club in Guangxi. Li and Chen have a son, Li Xiao Ning.

Li served as a member of the FIG men's technical committee from 1993 to 2000 and  was included into the International Gymnastics Hall of  Fame.
Li Ning lit the torch at the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
