Kyla Ross (USA) announces retirement.

Today I am officially announcing my retirement from elite gymnastics. This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have made in my life but I feel that my time as an elite gymnast has come to an end. I truly love the sport of gymnastics and I am so fortunate to have been able to accomplish my dreams with the help of my coaches, family, friends, and of course my amazing fans.

Having the opportunity to represent the U.S. through gymnastics has been a great honor and experience I will cherish. I would like to thank everyone for all the amazing support I have received over my entire elite career. As I make this transition to collegiate gymnastics and this next chapter in my life, I hope to still inspire people to reach for their dreams!
Sincerely,
Kyla Ross

“Shirai’s new element on Floor Exercise valued "H"

The imagination of gymnasts knows 'no bounds' when creating new skills
( Steve Butcher -- FIG MTC )

“Shirai’s new element on Floor Exercise, a double salto backward stretched with three twists, is an H value, as approved by the MTC, on a scale from A to H. It will be the second H value element for men in the Code of Points following the Bretschneider on Horizontal Bar. The Shirai 3 is difficult because of the double salto and multiple twisting. A perfect landing can be harder to find because of the complicated aspects of this element, combining power and precision. This element now means Shirai's name appears four times in the Code of Points.”

The human body and imagination of gymnasts has no bounds. Constantly improving coaching and originality will continue to bring us more difficult elements with improved safety.

European Gymnastic Union Technical Committee Meeting

The Technical Committees of men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics held their first meeting of 2016. The Presidents Yvette Brasier (FRA) and Jacky Wischnia (ISR) updated their TC members with info received from the last UEG Executive Committee meeting in Lausanne before moving on to the 2016 issues. Most notable on the agenda was -of course- the European Championships to be held in Bern end of May (men) and beginning of June (women). The first draft of the Work Plan is ready, the forms have been revised and the work of the judges outlined.

Other agenda points were a report of the successful WAG choreography camp in Madrid in December 2015, and the dates of the next edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival: 15 to 22 July 2017 in Györ (HUN).

The next TC meeting is planned in Bern so all members can visit the venue, training halls and official hotel while also revising the training schedules. The draw for the Europeans will be held on Friday 6 May in the Post-Finanz Arena.

A big thank you to the Greek Gymnastics Federation for welcoming the TC Presidents and members so warmly!
