In six major competitions, Ludmilla Tourischeva placed first
All Around. She have toured the world , and in doing so has left behind
memories. Memories of a great gymnast and great routines, but also memories of
a kind and generous person.
Ludmilla: born October 7, 1952, retired from gymnastics as a competitor in 1976, and started as an
assistant coach. The competitor from three Olympiads was soon elevated to
working with Russia’s elite, and their most promising stars. Filatova and Shaposhnikova
are two of Ludmilla’s proteges, and with her guidance and affection, both have
blossomed and won gold medals in international meets.
Ludmilla: married a famous athlete, Valery Borzov.
Ludmilla: loved and heralded, she has always maintained a
cheerful smile and disposition, giving help and guidance where needed, and
showing no emotion other than tears, when she did not win. To her someone always won, and that was what
counted. Ludmilla was and is a tribute to
her country and to the sport of gymnastics and for what she has contributed, we
and the world salute her.
