Yang Hak-seon Grabs Gold with New Vault “ Yang 2 “

Yang Hak-seon showcases his new technique dubbed "Yang 2" at the 2014 Korea Cup in Incheon on Saturday.
Olympic champion Yang Hak-seon reconfirmed his prowess at vault on Saturday by unveiling his second eponymous technique, the long-awaited "Yang 2," and winning the event at the 2014 Korea Cup in Incheon.

He had to settle for 14.900 points on his first attempt due to a mistake while landing but switched from his signature vault, a handspring triple twist dubbed "Yang 1," to the "Yang 2" on his second attempt and earned an impressive 15.925 points for a combined average of 15.412.

His latest technique involves an extra half a twist than the triple-twisting Lopez, which he used to strike gold at the 2012 London Olympics. In fact, the "Yang 2" is so complex that few other gymnasts even attempt to perform moves of this level of difficulty.

Yang plans to attempt it again in the Asian Games in Incheon in September, or at the World Championships in Nanning, China one month later.

If he nails it at either event the move will officially be added to the list of techniques recognized by the International Gymnastics Federation, along with the "Yang 1." It could not be added because the Korea Cup is not sanctioned by the FIG.
