2014 Sofia European Men's and Women's Artistics Gymnastics Championships
Men's JuniorTeam - Results:
The battle for the medals was a two nation competition with Great Britain determined to win their fourth consecutive European Junior Team Title, but a very impressive Russian squad had their eyes on the top prize too. GBR showed tremendous consistency and experience on the first five apparatus, while Russia impressed with their clean classic lines.
Britain managed to stay within 0.2 of the strong Russians on the first event, then continued to pull ahead throughout the competition giving themselves a 2.69 lead heading into the final apparatus, the pommel horse. Two uncharacteristic falls on the Britain’s best apparatus, put a bit of a damper on their mood, however the Russians could not catch up even after all the four gymnast in the team have hit their routines on the same event.
Great Britain takes the Team Gold for the fourth consecutive time following Lausanne, 2008; Birmingham, 2010 and Montpellier, 2012 (254.094). The Russians took the Silver (252.395) and France was thrilled to claim the Bronze Medal (246.194).
“I’m feeling very emotional. That means a lot to us and everything to me. We put a lot of time into it and we worked harder than any other nation to be the best team in Europe. Everything comes from preparation and practice. We stick to our plan and this gives us a competition spirit. The plan is to win the gold medal for a decade!” ( Barry Collie, National Coach of Great Britain )
Congratulations to all teams !

Condolence to former rhythmic gymnastics champion of Greece
The international community of gymnastics
mourn the loss of former rhythmic gymnastics champion Anna Pollatou (photo
GRE), who was killed in a car crash on the Patras - Pyrgos highway in the
afternoon of Saturday, May 17th. She was 30 years old.
Anna Pollatou was born on October 8th 1983 in Kefalonia and
started her career at the AGS Eptanison gymnastics club. She stood out for her
talent and got to become a member of the most successful group in the history
of Greek rhythmic gymnastics. As a part of the group which aptly got the
nickname ‘the golden girls’ by the Greek media, Pollatou won two gold and one
silver medal at the 1999 World Championships in Osaka, as well as three gold
medals at the 1999 European Championships in Budapest. One year later, she
added to her tally the precious bronze medal at the Sydney Olympic Games, thus
concluding a great career.
Pollatou officially retired in 2001, with just 17 years of
age, but never got too far from the sport she adored. She constantly served as
an ambassador for the annual Gymnastics for All International Festival of her
island, Kefalonia, and during the last years she worked as a coach at Megara,
trying to provide the Greek gymnastics with a young generation of champions.
The Malaysiagym blog and Arbakgym Malaysia express sympathies and
deep condolences to the Family, Friends and to the Hellenic Gymnastics
Federation.
