Russia
is hosting the Universiade in the
ancient city of Kazan (part of which is a UNESCO World Heritage site) from 6 –
17 July 2013 The Competition will be held at The Gymnastics Centre on of the largest sports complex in Russia.
Around 170 nations - to be more precise, 13,500 athletes and team
officials - are expected to come to Kazan for the 2013 Summer
Universiade. The World University Games promise to become the largest in
terms of number of participants. For instance, the Shenzhen 2011 Summer
Universiade brought together athletes from 154 countries. The largest
delegations, apart from the host country, are expected from such
sporting nations as the USA, Canada, China and Japan. The exact number
of participants will be announced three months before the start of the
Games. The countries that submitted general entry forms in October are
Bulgaria, Austria, Algeria, Nigeria, Morocco, the Philippines,
Kyrgyzstan, Japan, Latvia, Belarus, Botswana, Cyprus, Guatemala, India,
Jordan, Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Yemen.
