Lais Souza, paralyzed Olympic gymnast, eyes Rio torch relay

Lais Souza, a two-time Brazil Olympic gymnast paralyzed in a skiing accident on Jan. 27, 2014, said she will take part in the Rio Olympic torch relay and hopes to attend the Games in August.

She has said she dreams of walking again and has a tattoo of a person in a wheelchair gradually standing up.

Souza said she will take part in the Olympic torch relay in São Paulo later this year and hopes to attend the Rio gymnastics competition and maybe the Opening Ceremony in August, according to Universo Online, but does not have tickets or an invitation.

We pray she can walk again.

Max Whitlock GB returns to Glasgow for World Cup


The 2016 Glasgow World Cup line up has been confirmed with a star-studded line-up of international gymnasts set to compete as the prestigious event returns to the Emirates Arena on 12th March.
Leading the way will be 2015 pommel horse World Champion Max Whitlock, returning to the city where he made history for GBR in November. Joining Max will be teammate Claudia Fragapane the five-time Commonwealth Champion and World team bronze medallist and Scotsman Daniel Purvis, World Championships silver medal winner. Also in action will be 2015 World Championship team silver medallist Kelly Simm invited to take part in the World Cup as a host nation wild card competitor, the 2015 World University Champion will be aiming to make her mark again in Glasgow.

Azerbaijani gymnastics - 2015

The country gained 157 medals during last year.( 2015) and 
Rhythmic gymnasts could distinguish among the athletes, winning 81 medals overall.
Most of them are in Marina Durunda’s (22) medal box. Just one medal less was taken by her team-mate Zhala Piriyeva (21) and a gymnast Oleg Stepko who ranked 1st in the list of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.
Men’s Artistic Gymnasts comes next with 32 medals followed by acrobats scoring 15 medals.
Women’s Artistic Gymnasts won 11 medals, and, finally, representatives of trampoline gymnastics and aerobic gymnastics scooped 9 medals each.
Baku will host three World Cup series including Artistic Gymnastics in February, Trampoline Gymnastics in March, and Rhythmic Gymnastics in July.

Anastasia Grishina has retired


2012 Olympic silver medallist, and multiple European medal winner in her native city of Moscow in 2013, Nastia Grishina, has retired, confirms head coach Valentina Rodionenko in an interview with Albert Starodubtsev of Tass.
